This blog is an experiment, a diary of my running, biking, swimming and climbing experiences, a report of the road I'm embarking on, as of yet not sure where my road will lead me to.
A little more than a year ago I was fortunate enough to be able to run the Boston marathon. Qualifying was a dream coming true, but the dream didn't have the ending I dreamed of. I pushed myself too far, pushed myself too much, and I ended up not being able to run for over a year.
Since a few weeks I'm allowed to run again, to do sports again. This time, however, I want to do things differently. I still want to push myself to run farther, and faster and longer. But not ever again I want to go over my limits. So I'm starting slowly. Going from running the marathon to running 3 times 5 minutes. The goal for the next few weeks is to slowly up the mileage to a whopping 30 minute continues run!
My first run went ok, altough I did notice a sligth irritation in my hamstrings. At first I thought it might be my injury again, but it turned out to just to be sore muscles ...
The next to runs went fine as well, and I now feel ready to go to the next level ... 6 minutes running, 4 minutes walking ...
I've always been one for going faster, finding it difficult to slow my pace at the start of a race, not to get caught up in the moment and forgoing a good time. But for some reason I have no problems at all following my own schedule now. Perhaps I'm older and wiser, perhaps I really don't want to break something again, but so far so good.
